Easy set up and very customizable. I installed it for my VR80 shotgun without any issues. Great product.
Provides the protection I need to keep curious kiddos from getting their hands on our shotgun while still providing fast access. The biometric fingerprint scanner works better than any fingerprint scanner I have used across multiple devices from laptops to door locks! The unit is super adjustable to work across a wide range of platforms (I just had to fiddle with it for a long time to get the fit just right).
Good versatility for your AR configuration.
I had issues with other mounts due to my AR configuration or with AR15 type rifles like SIG that are different enough not to fit in a Hornady claimshell safe. This provides good protection with max configuration options. I may look into a truck type mounting solution for a truck gun. E.g. mounted to a plate bolted to seat mounts or the like.

Three parts on a rail. A code you can enter in the dark.
RACT Keypad locks a rifle or shotgun to the wall by the barrel, covers the trigger and cradles the stock. A 4 to 8 press code on four buttons opens it by feel, in the dark, without looking. It is the version for households that share one code and for hands whose prints have worn down.
Mount the rail to the studs
The 30 inch steel rail goes up with three structural lag screws, vertical or horizontal, in a closet, behind a door or beside the bed.
Set the gun in and close the lock
The barrel lock clamps around the barrel, the trigger cover blocks the trigger, and the stock support holds the butt. Each part slides along the rail to fit your gun, scope and light included.
Press your code and lift
Four buttons, a code of 4 to 8 presses. Your fingers find the buttons by feel, the barrel lock opens, and the gun comes off the wall in a firing grip.

We built RACT Keypad because owners asked for it. Mechanics, masons, farmers and nurses wear their fingerprints down, and no sensor reads a print that is not there. Other households wanted one code that two or three adults could share without registering anyone.
Four buttons give 87,380 possible codes of 4 to 8 presses, and an anti-brute-force lockout stops anyone from working through them. Because there are only four buttons, your fingers learn the code as a rhythm. You can enter it without looking, which is how you would need to enter it.
Everything else is the RACT: a steel rail that holds one long gun on the wall where you would reach for it, locked at the barrel, the trigger and the stock, with room for the scope, the light and the sling you already run.
Tested to 550 pounds of force.
The rail is 12-gauge steel and the lock body is aluminum alloy. A locked RACT is force tested to over 550 lb, and it holds the gun at three points, so defeating one of them does not free it.

Which version do I need: AR / Tactical Shotgun or Traditional Rifle & Shotgun?
Look at the grip. If your long gun has a pistol grip, as AR platforms and tactical shotguns do, choose AR / Tactical Shotgun: its trigger cover leaves room for the grip and an extended magazine, and it shields the takedown pin. If it has a traditional stock, as bolt-action and lever-action rifles and most pump or semi-auto shotguns do, choose Traditional Rifle & Shotgun: its notched hinge clears wider barrels and magazine tubes, up to 3.3 in. A $50 conversion kit switches one version into the other.
Keypad or Biometric: which should I get?
Choose Keypad when several people share access with one code, or when your fingerprints are worn and read poorly on sensors. Choose Biometric when you want the fastest possible access with nothing to remember: one touch, 0.2 seconds.
How is it installed?
Three GRK structural lag screws, included, go through the rail into wall studs. Mounted horizontally, the 30 in rail spans studs on 16 in or 24 in centers. The printed guide and the installation video walk through fitting the three parts to your gun.
What happens if the battery dies?
The safe stays locked. The lock is mechanical and needs power only to open, never to hold. A charge lasts over 10 months, and the included keys open it with no power at all.
What is the return policy and warranty?
You have 30 days from the ship date to return it for a refund, and we send a prepaid return label. The original outbound shipping charge is not refunded. Every safe carries a 1 year limited warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. Email support@varasafety.com to start either.
