The charging port used in the center console it would be better on the side not the bottom. also the brackets seem so tuff yet the holster to the safe is kinda sloppy. Still do love the feeling its locked up when i get out. I had a gun stolen once before and the worries of locking the truck Everytime sucks.

I was not sure what to expect when I got my Vara Safe. Honestly, it far exceeded my expectations in its ease of use and how easy it was to install. As a firearms instructor of many years, I am excited to have this to show to my students and something that I would be confident in reccomending this for all of my students to use.

Looks good. Holds the glock nicely. Might give it a 5 of i could mount it. Have the holster but no car mount. Maybe in August.

The safe is everything it's advertised to be. I have purchased and installed two. One is mounted in my truck and the other one is next to my night stand. The biometric sensor that activates the lock is easy to use and responds quickly. They are safe, secure, and an excellent option for securing a weapon inside a vehicle or home.

Satisfied, but not blown away

It looks great and gets the job done - so consider this a smaller complaint. The housing wiggles around in the mount a little bit. Not enough to break it free, but enough to be annoying. I just ordered a 360 mount, hoping I can use it to add a little extra tension. I would gladly cough up an extra $100 for a premium version with more rigidity, a higher quality/non-plastic holster, and a quieter draw (the resulting noise from the holster, not the mechanism)

VERY much want the left-handed version! Still, this is mounted on the left underside of my desk, between the leg and the keyboard-tray slide. Than means I have to use my left hand thumb or pointer-finger to trigger the lock. Awkward, but useable. Doubly awkward cause the spring is new and strong (and, I'm guessing, WON'T get any weaker!) when the pop the lock, the gun LEAPS out. Only hit the floor once; I'm sure as I get more used to it, it'll be easier to "catch." And, too, my contractor just finished mounting it -- so I've only used it 2-3 times. Really REALLY awkward to figure out how to assemble it, lying under the desk and trying to figure out which way and how to get the keyed slide back in place. But then, I'm 70-yr-old woman installing the super little thing and trying out my Kimber Micro in it after the contractor left. I'm very impressed. Still -- I NEED TWO left-handed versions -- bedside and near front door!

Looks like a great product, would love to buy one, but you still can't use it with a weapon mounted light! That is crazy to me, because you most likely would be using it at night!

Reach 2S is an awesome biometric safe

I bought the Reach 2S to use in my truck...still trying to figure out how to attach it in the truck console and wish that Vara sold an attachment to do so. The only issue I had with the safe was the insert for my gun didn't fit the threaded barrel of my hand gun. But a quick call to customer service and they provided a solution of drilling a hole for the barrel to slide in. "worked perfect" Great biometric safe...works as advertised. Now on to figuring out the solution of mounting it in the Trucks console.

Great Idea, Lack Of Compatibility

I'd LOVE one of these, especially since I can't find anything like it on the market. Sadly, my gun isn't one of the compatible ones. I have a Springfield Echelon and I just can't find anything like this for it. I definitely think this is a 5 star product, but until they make one for the Echelon, I sadly won't be able to buy. I hope they come out with one soon, it's a pretty popular gun from what I can tell and I know several owners that would like one too.

I bought 3 of the previous model and the worked great for a couple years then slowly stopped recognizing fingerprints. I left a review and they sent me a new model to try for free. So far so good. Good company to work with.

Pre-Install review

I was unable to install unit in vehicle as intended because I did not understand that I needed the vehicle adapter to do so. But after opening the box and programming the bio sensor, I am very impressed with its response time as well as the ergonomic design of the holder. My order was incorrec

In my original order, I specifically put in the notes the gun make and model I was using to confirm the correct safe was sent. With that information, I was still sent the incorrect reach S2. I called and left a message and still no one has called me back. It has been over a week. This is very poor service

Vara Safety replied: Can you please email support@varasafety.com so we can get you out the correct one ASAP! We have been experiencing a high call volume and are trying to get back to everyone as quick as we can.

The draw speed is fantastic, setup is easy, and retention is absolutely solid. The only note is that you have to be intentional when holstering. Make sure the weapon is fully holstered before pushing the holster into the locked position. Once you get the feel for it, it becomes a non-issue. Just an area of note when first using it. I currently have it bedside. I will definitely be getting another for my vehicle.

Vara is Crap

I purchased the Reach 2, plus the car adapters, etc. While the sturdiness is pretty good, the overall design has three serious flaws. Most importantly, the final step of sliding the holster portion into the mounting portion, simply did not work. After 20 minutes of fiddling with it, it would not go in. I took everything out and tried it again as a "bench test" and it would not seat into the mount. Tried with, and without the key. Very frustrating, either I got a bad unit, or it's total garbage. The other two problems I observed was using their seat bolting adapter failed to secure around the seat bolt, they used a slot, that could be pulled out with force. Why they didn't just use a hole, is silly. Lastly, if the unit is mounted in the lowest position, then the user can't put the key or the charger cable in as the slots are at the bottom of the unit; which is now down against the floor. Not well thought out at all.

Vara Safety replied: Hi Rick, Have you reached out to our customer support? We can definetely help you get your Reach installed if you're having issues! We can also help troubleshoot any issues you're having with the car mount. When properly seated, it is very unlikely someone would be able to pull the mount out by force since it is secured by a bolt used in the vehicle's seat hardware. When mounting in a center console, the key slot being on the bottom of the safe can be problematic for smaller consoles and this issue is being addressed with the upcoming Reach Tactical! varasafety.com/products/reach-tactical

Bedside Manner!

Amazing concept of a safe space to store your weapon. The locking mechanism on the first one I received didn't work but so far after just a few days this one seems to work fine. Looking forward to purchasing another one for another part of the house if this one works out.

I think the Reach 2S is great. Everything said in their description is correct. It is the perfect quick draw fingerprint holster. I mounted it in the center console of my Suburban. I had purchased the older model Reach 2 a couple years back and was very happy with it. One day, it the fingerprint reader stopped reading and the unit locked up. The backup key released my firearm and Vara honored the warranty with a small processing fee. I expected them to fix my old model, but they completely replaced it with the new Reach 2S. This is a company that stands by its product. I highly recommend anyone to buy one.

Needs more compatibility

I would love this mount. It would be awesome to have that quick access using the proprietary biometrics. However, it’s not sure practical for home defense if I can’t put a light on it (for use at night). It is also not compatible with some popular CCWs such as the Sig P365 Macro, Glock 43X MOS, etc. I would love to get it, but just can’t until these compatibility issues are resolved.

This is a very impressive product. The access to a ready firearm is essential when protecting one’s family. This coupled with the confidence that only authorized users have access, makes this my go to for safety and security. I promote this product to all my family and friends.

Programmed two thumb prints within a minute…. Tested it many times, demonstrates it to wife, sons… NEVER A FALSE or SLOW reading!!! Holster pops up almost instantly!! Good job VARA SAFETY!!! Buying a second one for the house!

Worth the money. Secure, quick release with hand on pistol ready to go. Only concern is that it takes several rounds of programming, unlocking, and reprogramming to get it to release consistently on the first go. First try took me 2 straight minutes of moving my thumb around the pad to get it to release. I'd recommend a software update that took more than just 3 reads to program the fingerprint.

I had to wait quite awhile for the Walther holster inserts to be in stock but customer service was responsive and accurate on when they’d have them available again. Quick delivery and easy, straight forward installation and programming. Out of box and mounted in less than 10 minutes. Finger print reading has been flawless and as quick as advertised so far. Design is sleek and the safe is well engineered and manufactured but an important design improvement should be made. While the security/mounting bracket is of a solid metal design and undoubtedly secured to whatever surface you mount it, the model specific holster insert is made of plastic and there is a lot of play/movement of the weapon when locked in the safe. Again, I do not doubt that the security mount is brute force-proof, but if it wasn’t for the potential of cosmetically damaging my safe and gun, I do like my odds at freeing a still functional weapon from the safe given this design shortcoming. While I’m sure there are a myriad of business factors preventing such exacting and customized inserts for every gun on the market, at this point in the product development process, I think the design team should prioritize improving fitment and material of the holster insert to provide the user with an increase sense of securement of the weapon. Finally, I’m gonna be bummed when I see the newest iteration coming out allowing for weapons mounted lights in short order to me finally getting this version. I hope the design teams fix doesn’t require buying the a new base unit and maybe just a holster insert with the aforementioned improvements that still works with the Reach 2! Overall, a solid purchase and recommended.

Good initiative, bad judgment. Most people that EDC have a light, red dot, suppressor height sights etc.. Other options to accommodate these features would be most ideal and unfortunately will be passing on these products.

Best Security For Fast Access Meets DOJ Standards

As a retired LE 25 years veteran this product is got to be one of the best I’ve seen in my career. As a homeowner, we’ve had a few occasions where the alarm went off, and I was unable to access my firearm timely manner. When you wake up at night and your alarm going off, sometimes you have trouble putting codes in to retrieve your firearm. With the Reach 2 S problem solved. no need for lockboxes anymore. A MUST HAVE!!!

This is hands down one of the best retention/safety holsters for an at home firearm. I have this at my bed side, which makes it easily accessible in an event I may need to defend my home/ family from those who decided to make a bad decision. When waking up from a sleep, I don’t have to think about a lock combination or how to position my finger on a box retention safe, but just the pure instinct of wrapping my hand around the firearm as my thumb lines up perfectly with the biometric finger print. The device unlocks quickly and with ease, as I can remove my firearm without delay. I like that I can order different holsters in the event I wish to change out my firearm. I can also be at ease as I know my young children cannot access the firearm, as the trigger assembly area is tightly secured to the point that a paper clip could not fit to manipulate the trigger. I also like that I can store multiple finger prints within the unit, to allow my wife to also have access to the firearm. I like the fail safe option that in an event the electronics of the biometrics fail, I have a key that will allow me to access my firearm and remove it. This is overall a must have and I plan on purchasing a few more for my travel trailer, personal vehicle and other areas of my home.

I am very impressed with the build. Very solid construction, even the holster. The fingerprint reader is the most impressive at how fast it is. I have other fingerprint readers that are a half second or more slower to read. I do wish the S2 had more versatility to be mounted, charged and broken down. Those are my small issues, from a great product.

I’ve done everything that I can think of and this thing does not work if nobody in your office can take the time to call me and tell me how this thing works. Id love to see more applications for Canik as I own a Mete Sft Pro and a Rival, neither are on the list. The tp9sfx option will probably work with them but I’d prefer an option made specifically for them, as they have a slightly wider slide. Not to mention the announcement of light bearing options as most people have a light on their home defense weapons. Id like to have an option for my car, bedside, and office for multiple gun options. Too bad I can’t afford to buy like 6 of them.

A very nice safe for it's intended use.

I like the overall product. I wish the holster or sleeves were made from non marking material like the safariland seven series uses. The frame is well machined very clean and fits tightly together. Once the system is locked it feels as if it is going no where. The fingerprint sensor requires you to place your finger as it was registured. If you do not it may not work. It is small compact and allows for a easy draw. It can be defeated by a person who really, really want to get it out and that will take tools and time. Children and guest in your home or car will not be getting the weapon loose from the safe. If it gets stolen it will be from a failure of the mounting location or the hardware used to mount it (bolts or screws) leaving the weapon in a secure state and unable to fire. Eventually whoever stole it will get the weapon out, but not at the time of the theft.

Purchased a reach 2 online. I was sent a refurbished unit instead of new due to an error in fulfillment. Received top-notch support from customer service. I received a call from the owner, Timmy, with an apology and a promise to send me the newer model 2S with no additional charge. The product is great but I really recommend for the customer service and made in America. Thanks VARA and thanks Timmy.

Great Design

I'm very happy with this purchase. It is very well designed and works very well. My pistol wasn't listed on the website but the staff were happy to work with me to figure out if any of the existing designs would fit my gun. The model that was suggested to me fits my gun well.

I think like most people that have it. I brought this point up that a lot of us have different sites and devices on our guns. I have a TRL6 combination, laser, and light that will not fit into the holster so I had to remove it off my Glock

I'm amazed at how well the biometrics work on this safe, and the setup was extremely easy. I have a second safe from a major name brand and I'm surprised how much more reliable the biometrics have been on the Reach 2S.

It’s worked flawlessly so far I found I have to hold the holster until my gun is all the way in then I can push it down to lock, also an audible beep when you release it would be great, otherwise I love it!

No light option?

If this is meant for quick access for intruders, shouldn’t the holster have a light option? Burglaries don’t only take place during the day. Just a suggestion.

Simple and easy

Great product so far. I can’t speak to long term use but initially it functioned straight out of the box and was simple to install. Retrieving a pistol is quick and my thumb easily finds the fingerprint scanner without fumbling to change hand position. Can’t ask for much more.

Can't get it to lock the gun in place, need to call support and see if I'm doing something wrong. But really how hard should it be. Product looks great, so we'll see if it's worth the cost or if I wasted money.

Vara review

The only thing I would add is a bigger fingerprint slot. I get some errors and had to do 3 different scans for my thumb. One higher one middle and one lower to make sure I don’t get a rejection if I need my gun asap. Other than that this is the best invention ever made. Just hoping later I can add my 509 tactical with a red dot and a flashlight. That would make this the overall best holster and everyone would want this. I got this for my wife because my home defense weapon wouldn’t work because of the light. So it’s perfect for her.

2nd one

I have one in each car and it works great. Unlocks very quickly and i use it every day. I carry on my holster everyday but when I get in the car I transfer my gun to the Reach 2S to be more comfortable driving. Then when I get off I carry the gun with me. I it has never failed open quickly.

Wasnt sure if would be good or not, how would lock, how would biometrically respond, Mike Glover doesn’t seem like a bs kinda guy, so got it, and… sure enough works awesome. Really like it, probably fastest release with positive grip from start compared to anything else on market for similar purpose tried two different handguns, both worked great (one a little harder push to positively lock in compared to the other). Now only problem is need three more…

Love it once I got going

Mine hadn't been "hard reset" before shipping (after they performed the quality check) so I had a difficult time figuring out what to do. I made an appointment with Tech Support. I would have liked to have been able to just call when I first noticed the issue, but they did call at the scheduled time . The person was very nice and had my safe running perfectly in no time by telling me what to do. I have it mounted now and am very happy with it. I've found you have to practice getting your print very close to the angle you registered, but that's no biggie. All in all, a few bumps along the way but I would definitely buy it again!

why did I wait so long

Having the reach near my entrance in a location that if someone were to push through they would push me right into the location of the Reach. Its perfect if your not carrying in your house. If you use the reach as the carry lock up then entering the home you holster into the reach and leaving you take it out to use as your carry. Very convenient and easy to use.

Superb product

This safe is fast to release my firearm the holster takes both of my P320s no problem. The sensor is great and perfectly placed no fiddling with combinations to get to your firearm. Just your thumb and you are ready to go. I took a video of the safe and how it works and sent it to my hanai brother. Three words came back. "That is awesome". I installed the Vara Reach 2s on my bed frame in the correct position because when I rolled over and was getting up, it was right there. It could not have been better placed and no codes to press

Safety first with a practical solution

Does just what it says it does. Quick, reliable and solid. finger print reader is much better than earlier model. IMO A slight play with my 45 but nothing to worry about. thinking of adding one to my vehicle.

It took me a couple tries to get it right because you need almost 3" of clearance below (maybe the instructions told me this, but I'm a guy so I never read them), but it work perfect in the center console of my 22 F150. Secure with quick access.

Easy To Set Up

We now have three Reach 2S. One in a 2022 Rav4 for my bride, one in my 2000 Tundra, and one in the kitchen. Mounting in a vehicle is relatively easy. It takes a couple times to get it situated to where it is close and easy to grasp. To me, that is key. Although the weapon is locked in the reach while we drive, we always remove it once we get out of the vehicle. I've read some of the comments about Reach 2s on other platforms where people are hesitant about the scanner not working. All I can say is my wife and I programmed in our thumb prints on all three and they have never failed to release the weapon extremely quickly, like within a third of a second. Perfect practice makes for perfect execution. Finally, don't forget to check the battery status every month or so. Simply press and release the little white button and count the blue leds, 3 is full. Once any of ours get to 1 led, we plug in to a charger.

Reliable security and gun holster

I have been looking for a device that is easy to access in case of an emergency but something that will also keep it secured. This is perfect and can basically mount anywhere you need it to. These are pricey but worth it. Ill buy a couple more when I can for the vehicles.

Perfect Fit

I had been trying to figure out the best solution to safely secure my handgun in my vehicle. I tried a small safe and it took up a lot of space. Then I tried a biometric trigger lock which was the most unreliable device I've ever had, but it was the most compact and could be stored anywhere. Then I came across Vara Safety's Reach 2S and it had it all! It's both extremely reliable if you need to access your firearm in a split second and compact enough to fit in a vehicle's center console or glove box. I purchased the vehicle adapter and mine is right in front of my seat where I can immediately access it with ease.

Reach 2S

Unlocks fast. Easy to program fingerprints. Firearm fits nice and snug in the holster. Will definitely recommend to others in need of a fast access safe. Wish it had RFID like the Reach 2, but the fingerprint access is really reliable so its a minor thing.

Missing the new obvious

I own both the Original Reach and Reach 2. Both work as they should. My issue is as I get older I am adding red dots to my pistols and I haven't found a Reach Holster to work with any of my pistols with the red dot on them. I understand barrel lights and lasers being hard to make a holster for all the different possibilities but a red dot for most pistols go in the same place so it shouldn't be hard to build around. Otherwise, great product.

Hands down the best safe I own (I own about a dozen). Quickest and easiest access.

Great way to keep your firearm safe and usable

The only issue that I had with my Reach 2S is that I had to read the instructions to install and use. Completely a 1st world problem! Programming was a very easy motion to make. Install was just screwing in a few screws with a drill. It is a very solid safe once mounted. As I have a toddler walking around my house now, I feel completely safe in using my Reach 2S and being able to defend my family.

I installed the Vara Safety S2 in my Hyundai Palisade center console and it works flawlessly. Love it! I didn't add anything, I installed just like it came.

Fast access.

Reach 2s - Amazing. I love it. It just works!!!

I own all of the Reaches, and you can clearly tell the improvments with each iteration. I purchased the Reach 2s to replace the first Reach by my bedside. My first Reach had a few issues to where it would not unlock if it was plugged in. I worked with customer service, and even joined a call with engineers to figure out the issue. Overall, amazing customer service, but that's another story. I still had issues with the first Reach, and if someone broke into my home armed, I did not have any confidence with unlocking my firearm. I have other options, and I would have been ok, but I really wanted my firearm by my bed easily accessible. I received my Reach 2s, and intalled it. The unlock time fast. When unlocking it, it is a bit more quiet, no flashing lights, and overall it is reliable, and I have complete confidence unlocking my firearm. There is no lag time. It is pretty much instant. It's just amazing, and I would definitely recommend it.

Very Smart and Sleek Safe

I purchased this holster-safe after watching a bunch of Youtube and Vara Safety videos. It lives up to its description. Once mounted (to a secure stud), it's not coming off. However - if it did come off, the gun is not coming out of that holster. On the other hand, it takes less than 2 seconds to remove the gun with an authorized finger print. I have small children in the house, there is no way for them to remove the gun and no way for them to put their fingers anywhere near the trigger. I will be purchasing a second holster, and probably a car mount as well soon. I have recommended this to all my friends already.
